Almost a quarter of a million Victorian homes affected by power outages
Acting Premier James Merlino said almost 245,000 homes have been affected by power outages following a night of wild weather and has thanked emergencies services for their efforts in responding to calls for help. “Victoria SES has received more than 4,500 requests for assistance across the estate in the last 24 hours to around until 9am. More than 1,700 of those have been cleared,” he said. “There are around almost 245,000 homes that have been affected by power outages, with power companies working to restore power. “Vic Emergency is currently showing 17 warnings for riverine flooding and 30 flood watch advice messages. “There is also an evacuation notice for the low-lying areas of Traralgon and there’s a relief centre being set up at the basketball stadium. “So, I just want to thank, on behalf of all Victorians, the many thousands of SES members who have been out overnight and this morning supporting Victorians right across the state. “To all of our emergency services, you are doing a brilliant job”.
