Sky News contributor Graham Richardson has paid tribute to his close friend David Leckie, labelling him as a “pedantic” media executive who never settled for second best. The 70-year-old tragically passed away in Robertson after a long battle with illness, his family announced on Tuesday morning. A giant in the media industry, Mr Leckie spent over a decade as the CEO of Nine before switching to the Seven Network, where he remained as an advisor until eventually stepping down in 2017. Although a “difficult fella”, Mr Richardson said Mr Leckie will be remembered for his “good instinct for ordinary Australians”. “He could be a very difficult fella because he was pedantic when he wanted the best, he would never, ever, accept second best and that meant he pushed people hard and some people, of course, didn’t like that too much,” he said. “He was also known for his temper, he could walk in the room one day and smile at him and he could be screaming obscenities at you the next second – you didn’t know what was going to come. “Everybody accepted that because everybody also knew they were in the presence of someone who was very special, someone you don’t come across many times in your life.”
