Rugby league immortal Andrew Johns said exactly what NRL fans were thinking when he poked fun of TV colleague Darren Lockyer during Wednesday night’s State of Origin dead-rubber.
Johns was heard ripping off Lockyer before his studio microphone was turned off at the end of a segment where the live Channel 9 broadcast cut to Lockyer on the ground at Cbus Super Stadium to interview Blues star Latrell Mitchell following Queensland’s Game 3 win over NSW.
Vautin was ready to call the series off while the Maroons players were still on the field at the end of Game 2 when he appeared to speak out of turn on the Channel 9 broadcast, with his microphone cut seconds later.
“They may as well call off the third (game),” Vautin said as the broadcast returned to the studio inside Suncorp Stadium.
The TV dramas were mirrored on the field on a night of controversy.
