Proposal pushed for all Australians to work in a rural organisation during early adulthood
Psychiatrist and Author Tanveer Ahmed has proposed for a program that allows all Australians to work in a rural organisation as part of their early adulthood. “It might be a cattle station, a farm or maybe an indigenous group,” Dr Ahmed said. “It might be as short as 6 weeks or longer, 6 months. “I don’t support making this compulsory but encouraging it at a national level with subsidies and whatever else, combined with backing from employer and educational groups, might be the way to get broad uptake,” he said. Dr Ahmed said, “this rural conscription for the masses will not only strengthen and enrich national identity, but may help heal the culture wars for future generations”.
